About the Foundation

The Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation is a registered Canadian charity with a mandate to raise funds to benefit the health care of the children of Newfoundland and Labrador from the unborn infant to children up to the age of 18 years old. The success of the Janeway Foundation is due to the overwhelming support of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Foundation is your way of supporting our province’s only pediatric hospital and investing in the health care of our children.
All of your contributions to the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation go towards the improvement of the health care of our children and are used to:
- Upgrade and replace pediatric medical equipment.
- Fund pediatric research in Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Enhance the pediatric environment of the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre.
- Provide on-going capital and specialized program needs of the Janeway.

Frequently Asked Questions
How are donations used?
Your donations are directed to the area of the hospital that has the greatest need. It may be used to purchase a new piece of equipment, or invest in pediatric research; your gifts are used for the benefit of our children’s health care.
Who determines where my money is spent?
The needs of the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre are determined by those who know best, the medical staff. Division Managers submit their lists of greatest needs for their departments and programs to the Program Director of Children’s and Women’s Health. The list is finalized and presented to the Board of Directors of the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation who review and approve the capital equipment funding commitments.
Why is there always a need to purchase new medical equipment?
The equipment needs of our province’s only pediatric hospital continue to grow for several reasons. First because this is a pediatric hospital and we treat children from infancy to 18 years old the equipment needs may vary depending on size and age of the child. Also the life span of equipment is between 3 to 10 years so we are constantly replacing broken down and outdated equipment. One of the most critical reasons is because medical and treatment technology is changing so rapidly that we have to purchase new equipment to keep up with the changing needs to better care for our children. All of the equipment we purchase is imperative to ensure that our children have the best health care possible.
