Isolette

An isolette is a very critical piece of equipment necessary to care for our tiniest patients who need an environment in which their individual requirements can be given every attention.

Isolettes provide safe, warm environments and protect babies from noise, drafts, infection and excessive handling. There are several types of isolettes that are used depending on the care an infant requires. Some of our babies are born premature and require places similar to a mother’s womb to grow and develop. Babies are often examined and tests like x-rays are done while they remain in their little cocoon. There are also special isolettes that are used by the Janeway’s transport team. These highly trained medical professionals are on call to pick up sick babies from anywhere in Newfoundland and Labrador and bring the infants to the Janeway for specialized care.

On average one baby is admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, (NICU) every day. This may be because a child is born premature or because an infant requires surgery or specialized care.

Your gifts guarantee our tiniest miracles have the care they require to grow and thrive.
