About the Janeway

Every year, every month and every day there are dozens of remarkable stories of hope, courage and miracles that arise from within the walls of this hospital. The Janeway is much more than bricks and mortar; it’s a place where miracles really do happen.

For most of us, from Newfoundland and Labrador, recollecting a story about the Janeway is not a difficult task. We have either had a personal experience with the Janeway, have a child, grandchild, niece, nephew, or we may know a child from our community who has received care at the Janeway.

The Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre has been an important part of our province for over forty years and has stood as a beacon of strength, hope and encouragement for many families.

The need for a hospital dedicated entirely to pediatric health care was realized in 1966 with the opening of the Dr. Charles A. Janeway Child Health Centre. The “old Janeway” served our children until 2001 when a new state of the art facility was opened.

The "new" Janeway has spacious rooms and inpatient units, modern surgical and emergency departments, and a child friendly atmosphere.
