About the Telethon

The Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation is a proud member of the Children’s Miracle Network, a network of 170 children’s hospitals throughout North America. CMN supports its member hospitals through balloon sales, radiothons, direct marketing and corporate fund raising initiatives. The hallmark of CMN’s support is that all funds raised in a particular region through a CMN initiative stays in that region to support its children’s hospital. CMN introduced the concept of a Telethon to its member hospitals in 1983 and it has grown to be the largest television fundraiser in the world.

The Janeway Children’s Miracle Network Telethon is one of over 200 live broadcasts throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico and benefits over 14 million children annually.

The Janeway Children’s Miracle Network Telethon is traditionally held the first weekend of June and is an indication that the beautiful summer season is upon us. The Telethon is a partnership of the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation and CBC Television.

The Telethon is more than a fundraising event; it’s truly a “Celebration”. It’s a celebration of our community, of our Province, and of our children. As Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans the health and well-being of our children come second to no other cause.

Boys and girls, men and women, people throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, come together to make the Telethon the most successful Foundation fundraising event and truly a province wide initiative.

The Telethon is a showcase of our children, our Janeway and also our values as each entertainer, presenter and volunteer has his or her own personal reason to support the Telethon and in turn the Janeway. All funds raised during the Telethon go directly to support the purchase of medical equipment, invest in pediatric research or provide bursaries to our physicians to benefit the health of our children.

How You Can Help

You can get involved with the Telethon by holding a fundraiser in your workplace or your community, by buying a Miracle balloon in one of our sponsor retailers or by supporting an existing initiative in your community. Volunteer Opportunities

During the Telethon we require dozens of volunteers to make this event successful. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the Foundation office at 777-4640.
