Our Kids

2011 Holiday Art Contest

In 2010 the Janeway Children's Hospital Foundation began a new initiative that our Janeway patients could take part in - the Annual Holiday Art Contest.  All contestants were required to draw and color a holiday picture.  One artist's drawing would then be selected and printed on the Janeway Children's Hospital Foundation holiday card.

Here are the entries that we received for the 2011 Holiday Art Contest.  I am sure you will agree, we have many amazing artists here at the Janeway.  Special thanks to all of our artists for taking part and to the Child Life Department for helping with the contest.

Our Team

Though the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation typically raises funds for medical equipment and vital medical research, it is also important to continually fund educational opportunities for our Janeway staff, allowing them to expand their knowledge and enhance their clinical practices.

The Staff Education Fund has received many worthy applicants and have funded staff attendance to programs/ conferences in the areas of Neonatal/ Pediatric Transport; Adolescent Medicine; Cleft Palate-Craniofacial; Mental Health & Addictions; Diabetes; Ophthalmology and Pediatric Surgery, just to name a few.

SDC10645.JPGAs a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a member of the provinces only Neonatal Transport Team for the past 28 years, Agatha Howlett knows first hand the importance of continued education as it relates to the health care of our smallest patients. Attending the Neonatal Transport Conference this past October offered transport professionals an opportunity to learn new techniques and the latest advances in neonatal/ pediatric transport from experts in their field.

Upon completion of these various programs/ conferences Janeway staff then share the information obtained to help advance the practices of their colleagues throughout the health care system.

Our Donors

Receiving visits from our Janeway Kids is a highlight each and every day for the Janeway Foundation staff.  So many children stop by for a visit to say hi, to let us know how they are doing and, of course, many want to make a donation so that they can help make other kids better.

Six year old Amber and her brother Blake are from the West Coast.  During a yard sale that her mom and dad had, Amber decided that she wanted to set up a Lemonade Stand and raise money for the Janeway.  And that is exactly what she did.

Amber thinks those big cheques are really cool.

Thank you Amber and Blake.
