Wedding and Birthday Program
There are so many ways that you can donate to the Janeway and aid
in the health care of our province’s children. One way that is becoming
very popular is making a gift in lieu of traditional wedding favors, or
instead of tapping your glass for the bride and groom to kiss, you make
a donation.
The staff of the Janeway Foundation can create and
provide lovely table cards to use during your wedding ceremony advising
your guests of your special wishes.
Gifts may also be made by guests to honor a couple’s wedding.
For additional information on gift giving ideas please contact the Janeway Foundation at 709-777-4640 or janewayfoundation@easternhealth.ca

that our Newfoundland and Labrador children have every health care
advantage possible, offering them the best chances for a healthy future.

Bequests
Make a Gift through your Will
A bequest, a donation made through a legal valid Will, is the most
common type of planned gift and can also allow you to gain long-term tax
savings.
You can plan today to leave a pre-determined gift of funds,
property or a portion of your estate to help benefit the health care of
our sick and injured children after your passing.
The three most common types of bequests are:
Specific Bequest - the Janeway Foundation would receive a
specific dollar amount or stated fraction of your estate or a specified
gift in kind, such as art, collections, etc.
Residual Bequest - the Janeway Foundation would receive a
percentage of the remainder of your estate after other specific bequests
have been fulfilled.
Contingent Bequest - the Janeway Foundation would receive a
stated share of your estate, but only in the event of the prior death of
other named beneficiaries.
If you are considering a bequest to the Janeway Foundation, we
encourage you to explore the various donation options with your
financial and legal advisors, ensuring that your future gift is as tax
effective as possible and takes your family needs into consideration.
To make or discuss a Bequest Gift please contact Lynn Sparkes, Executive Director, Janeway Foundation at 709-777-4640 or lynn.sparkes@easternhealth.ca.

Life Insurance
Make a wonderful gift of a Life Insurance Policy
Life insurance policies are creative ways to donate, assisting the
Janeway to build on its long term financial strength without diminishing
your own. Here are ways in which you can make a significant gift using
life insurance:
- Donate a fully paid policy that you no longer need. Make the
Janeway Foundation the owner and beneficiary of this policy. You, in
turn, will receive an immediate tax receipt for the “cash surrender”
value of the policy.
- Donate an existing policy that you are currently paying premiums
on. Transfer the ownership of this policy to the Janeway Foundation.
You will receive tax receipts for all future premiums that you pay.
- Purchase a new policy naming the Janeway Foundation as owner and
beneficiary. You will receive tax receipts on all future premiums that
you pay.
- Retain ownership of your policy and name the Janeway Foundation
as the direct beneficiary. At the time of your passing your estate will
receive a tax receipt for the value of the policy.
If you are considering a gift of Life Insurance to the Janeway
Foundation, we encourage you to explore the various donation options
with your financial and legal advisors, ensuring that your future gift
is as tax effective as possible and takes your family needs into
consideration.

Make a gift of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, flow-through shares or stock options
The tax incentives offered for gifts of publicly listed securities
makes this one of the most cost-effective ways to donate to the Janeway.
When you sell an appreciated stock, mutual fund, or flow-through
shares, you are required to pay tax on 50% of the capital gain.
However, if you donate these stocks to the Janeway Foundation you do not
pay capital gains tax.
If you are considering a gift of Appreciated Securities to the
Janeway Foundation, we encourage you to explore the various donation
options with your financial and legal advisors, ensuring that your
future gift is as tax effective as possible and takes your family needs
into consideration.

RRSP-RRIF Funds
Make the Janeway Foundation a beneficiary of your RRSP/RRIP
Retirement funds are one of the most highly taxed assets you own.
However when the Janeway Foundation is designated as a direct
beneficiary of your RRSP (registered retirement savings plan) or RRIP
(registered retirement income fund) these taxes are offset at the time
of your passing. Your gift will then be treated as a charitable
donation with tax receipts issued for the full amount transferred to
your charity of choice.
To make a gift to the Janeway speak with your financial institution to add the Janeway Foundation as a beneficiary.
If you are considering a gift of RRSP/RRIP Funds to the Janeway
Foundation, we encourage you to explore the various donation options
with your financial and legal advisors, ensuring that your future gift
is as tax effective as possible and takes your family needs into
consideration.

Property
Make a gift of Real Estate or Property
Gifts of property can be an attractive way to make a commitment to
the Janeway. Whether it is real estate, jewellery, collections or art,
your gift will assist the health care of our province’s children, while
offering you important tax and income benefits.
Before making a gift of property, professional appraisals must be
completed by qualified third-party appraisers, determining fair market
value of your designated gift. Then, once the property is legally
transferred to the Janeway Foundation, receipts for income tax purposes
can be issued for the full appraised value.
If you are considering a gift of Property to the Janeway
Foundation, we encourage you to explore the various donation options
with your financial and legal advisors, ensuring that your future gift
is as tax effective as possible and takes your family needs into

Charitable Remainder Trust
Giving today while retaining use of the Asset
"A charitable remainder trust (CRT) is a planned gift whereby a
donor makes a gift of property, investments, real estate, art, etc.
(usually irrevocable) to the Janeway Foundation through a trust
agreement.
The donor transfers the property to a trustee (you, a financial
institution, a lawyer or other individual), who holds and manages it. If
the property is income-producing, the net income will be paid to the
donor and/or other named beneficiary(ies).
When the trust terminates (either at the passing of the
beneficiary(ies)) or after a term of years, the trust remainder is
distributed to the Janeway Foundation. If the trust is irrevocable, the
donor is immediately (at the time of the establishment of the trust)
entitled to an official tax receipt for the present value of the donated
residual interest."
If you are considering a gift of a Charitable Remainder Trust to
the Janeway Foundation, we encourage you to explore the various donation
options with your financial and legal advisors, ensuring that your
future gift is as tax effective as possible and takes your family needs

Make a permanently invested gift
An endowment is capital invested, during your lifetime or as part
of your estate plan, to provide a stable and reliable source of income
for the Janeway Foundation, either for a determined number of years or
in perpetuity. The principal amount of your donation is invested with
the interest only used to support the Janeway.
The endowment fund can be named for you, in honor of a loved one or
to recognize a special person, as outlined in the Janeway Foundation’s
"Naming, Dedication and Signage Policy".
Endowments to the Janeway Foundation can be established to support
specific areas within the hospital such as the purchase of medical
equipment; the funding of research; educational bursaries; or to the
highest priority needs determined. To make or discuss a gift of this
